Indian medical students continue to flock to Georgia

Georgia, a country situated at the intersection of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, continues to attract a steady flow of Indian students seeking higher education. During his 2021 visit to Georgia, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar estimated that there are currently 8,000 Indian students enrolled in various universities in the country. Many of them have chosen to study medicine at esteemed institutions like Tbilisi State Medical University, European University, and Caucasus International University. One such student is Chinmay Sharad Jadhav, who enrolled at Georgian American University (GAU) in 2018 after completing his 12th standard in Pune, India. Jadhav was drawn to Georgia due to its affordability and reputation for safety. The country boasts over 20 universities, primarily located in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, and Batumi, which are approved by the National Medical Council of India. These universities also provide top-notch clinical exposure and training that is recognized by organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO). This makes it easier for graduates to qualify for exams like the PLAB and USMLE in countries like the UK. While medical studies were the top choice for most Indian students in Georgia, Ananya Atri stood out by choosing the Black Sea International University for her distance studies. Praises from her peers and the university’s diverse environment, as well as Tbilisi’s climate, influenced her decision. Atri is pursuing a major in international relations and highlights the educational value of Georgia, along with its potential for travel and adventure. Despite facing an epidemic, she finds herself as the only Indian student in her class but appreciates the school’s efforts to promote integration. The English teaching in Georgia, along with a variety of subjects and a safe environment, also caught Atri’s attention. It is worth noting that Georgia’s recent introduction of an e-visa system for Indian tourists and businessmen reflects the growing relationship between the two countries.

This explains the increasing number of Indian students choosing Georgia for higher education, especially in the field of medicine, while also highlighting Georgia’s diverse educational system, environment, and climate. Moreover, the presence of Indian companies and professionals in various sectors indicates the growth of economic and cultural exchanges between India and Georgia.
