The Canadian Education System offers top quality education through both public and private institutions. More than 10,000 graduate and undergraduate programs are offered by 213 public colleges and 223 public and private universities in Canada. Degrees offered at universities in Canada include:

In Canada, undergraduate degrees are pursued after completing the 12th grade. The duration of the program varies depending on the type of course and province. However, most undergraduate degrees last for four years.

This is an undergraduate degree that requires one or two years of study. These programs vary greatly from institution to institution, and from province to province.

A Master of Arts or Master of Science degree is considered a graduate degree. Master’s degrees in Canada typically last 2-3 years.

The Doctorate or Ph.D. degree in Canada is a specialized post-graduate degree that can take anywhere from three to six years to complete.

The Student Direct Stream, or SDS, is a fast-track program for obtaining a study permit in Canada at a designated learning institution (DLI). To be eligible for SDS, applicants must meet certain conditions, including: an overall score of at least 6 on the academic IELTS with no band below 6, upfront payment of tuition fees to the DLI, transfer of one year’s living expenses and obtaining a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC), and a quick 15-to-20-day visa outcome with a high approval rate.

Non-SDS If you don’t meet any of the above 3 conditions, you must apply for a visa under the non-SDS route. Visa processing under this route usually takes longer than under the SDS, and the approval rate is also relatively low.

The credit system in Canada is the same throughout all Canadian universities. The credits a student earns during the course are used to calculate their final grade.

Undergraduate degrees/Bachelor’s degrees usually require three to five credits per course. A Bachelor’s degree typically requires 90-120 credits.

An undergraduate course requires 2 credits, while a master’s course requires 3-4 credits. A master’s degree in Canada requires 30 credits or more.

A student’s grade point average is calculated by using the GPA, a scale between 0.0 and 4.0. Each semester’s grade is determined by the marks obtained in each course and the credits earned during that semester. A grade of 4.0 corresponds to an A, while a grade of 0.0 corresponds to a grade of F.
